About This Project
Three interlocking interventions to close the mental health treatment gap: (1) Global Fund for Mental Health: A $5B/year multilateral fund — co-financed by G20 health ministries and a 0.1% levy on pharmaceutical industry revenue — dedicated to scaling evidence-based mental health interventions in LMICs. Modeled on the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria, with outcome-based disbursement tied to verified reductions in treatment gap. (2) Task-Shifted Care at Scale: WHO mhGAP (Mental Health Gap Action Programme) has proven that trained community health workers can deliver effective mental health interventions for depression, anxiety, and psychosis at a fraction of psychiatrist cost. Mandate mhGAP training for all community health workers in LMIC national health systems — reaching 100M people with basic mental health care using existing infrastructure. (3) Climate Trauma Services: Integrate climate grief counseling and eco-anxiety support into primary care systems in the 50 countries most exposed to climate displacement. Train 50,000 'climate mental health first responders' — community workers trained in psychological first aid and climate grief — by 2030.
