About This Project

Establish a binding global compact to halt all new peatland drainage and rewet 50 million hectares of drained peatlands by 2040. The compact would create: a Peatland Protection Fund ($50 billion over 10 years); legally binding no-drain provisions with international monitoring; paludiculture transition support for farmers and communities economically dependent on drained peatland agriculture; and carbon credit mechanisms enabling voluntary market financing of rewetting.
